Oakland Unified HQIM Panel Discussion
Oakland Unified School District in California adopted high-quality instructional materials in mathematics at the middle school level in the 2018-19 school year. Several years later, a quasi-experimental research study shows positive impact of their Illustrative Mathematics curriculum—rated by EdReports as a high-quality instructional material—on student mathematics achievement. Throughout this implementation, the Oakland district mathematics leadership has designed and enacted a broad and deep suite of supports and systems to build their educator capacity to realize California’s vision for mathematics instruction with Illustrative Mathematics.
With support from the Gates Foundation, WestEd is hosting a live panel discussion with Oakland Unified district educators. The panel discussion will provide insight into the district’s curriculum implementation journey and highlight approaches they have used to create rigorous mathematics learning opportunities for all students.
